Position Title: Adult ESL Summer Program Teacher

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a passionate and self-directed ESL and family literacy teacher to teach a class for beginning level adult English learners at our St. Paul campus. Our ideal teacher has experience making interactive, engaging lessons that give adult learners at the beginner level ample practice with the English language. The program teacher should be able to make learners from different cultural backgrounds feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. The teacher should also be competent at communication with families and familiar with strategies for family literacy and learning.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lesson Planning and Delivery
- Participate in a training on the provided curriculum
- Watch the NCFL webinar on family literacy lesson planning and strategies
- Plan 2 classes (1.5 hours each) each week, based on a provided curriculum
- Teach both ESL and Family Literacy components in each lesson or - in consultation with the ML program coordinator - teach 1 full ESL and 1 full Family literacy lesson per week
- Consult with the EL Program Coordinator on lesson content
- Print lesson materials .
- Track adult learner attendance
- Hand out gas and bus cards to attendees, and track distribution
Family Outreach
- Assist the ML Coordinator and Childcare worker with reaching out to families
- Refer family concerns to the ML Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS
- A Minnesota teaching license
- Preference given to teachers with 2+ years of experience, though all are welcome to apply
- Experience working with diverse learners
- Ability to work independently, solve problems and actively seek assistance when needed
COMPENSATION
This position is part-time, and runs from 6/24/2023 to 7/29/2024. During the week of 6/13, four hours of training are provided. During the summer program (6/20 - 7/28), three hours per week are devoted to teaching lessons, and another three are dedicated to planning, with the exception of the week of the 4th of July, during which no lessons are required to be offered. The stipend for the position is $3,000, or roughly $75/hour.
